Local MP seeks to tackle rising food prices

Who paysThis week, I gave my support to Action Aid campaign Who Pays?.  The campaign is fighting for more affordable food and better relations abroad.

ActionAid has urged the Government to ensure a sustainable and secure food supply base for UK consumers.  So far, over 42,000 people have joined ActionAid’s call to tackle poverty and amend relations overseas in the food industry.

ActionAid’s main objectives, to end poverty and injustice, align with the Government’s Millenium Development Goals to eradicate poverty and develop a global partnership for development.

I've written to Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, the Rt Hon John Hutton MP, on behalf of ActionAid.  With my constituents in mind, i've expressed concern about rising food prices and am currently awaiting a response from Mr Hutton.

The current economic situation presented in the food industry makes grocery shopping more challenging for many people.  With a family of five, i've seen first hand what impact rising prices can have on any household budget. I will continue to work with my colleagues to battle these escalating food prices.  Everyone has the right to put affordable food on the table.
