MP Demands Action on Child Poverty
Celia Barlow MP calls for action on child poverty to be included in the Budget
Hove MP, Celia Barlow has joined a growing number of Labour MPs calling for action on Child Poverty to be included in the Budget later this week. Celia added her name to a list of over 70 signatures from MPs who wrote to the Observer national newspaper demanding that the Government continues to act on the pledge to end child poverty.
The Government has set the target of halving child poverty by 2010, and Wednesday’s Budget presents an important opportunity to make much needed investment available.
Celia Barlow MP said:“I am proud of the Government’s record in tackling child poverty, with over 600,000 children being lifted out of poverty since 1997. However, if we are going to meet the target of halving child poverty by 2010, we need to make more funding available. This week’s Budget is an important opportunity to secure this much needed funding."
