20 is Plenty

20mphI have joined forces with Poets' Corner Nursey, local residents and businesses to campaign for a maxium speed limit of 20mph to be implemented within the residential area of Clarendon Road in Hove. Many residents are concerned about motorists using these densely populated residential streets as rat-runs into central Hove, Old Shoreham Road and to Hove train station.

I requested that Brighton & Hove City Council conduct a feasibility study to look into traffic calming measures within this area. Unfortunately, this study was denied by the Council. Therefore, I am calling on local residents to support this important campaing by signing my petition, so that a request for a traffic calming study can be re-submitted to the Council for further consideration.

Celia Barlow said "Children live and play here and it is our duty to do everything we can to protect them. A 20mph limit is not an excessive demand, and would provide greater protection for residents".

Please sign my online petition and contact me with any of your concerns about the traffic within this area, or any other areas of concern within Hove & Portslade. During National Road Safety week 5th-11th November I will be talking to residents within the Clarendon/Goldstone Road area about their traffic and road safety concerns.

 20mph Governmental Statistics

  • More than half of road deaths and serious injuries occur on roads with 30mph speed limits.
