MP Wants New Places for Young People to go in Hove

MyplaceHove could see new facilities for young people to take part in activities after school and at weekends, such as music, sport, dance and drama.

I want the area to bid for a share of funding from a new £190 million national pot. The funding comes from the Government’s new ‘myplace’ programme which aims to provide new and exciting places for young people to go in communities across the country.

The ‘myplace’ programme is in addition to dedicated funding from the Government for youth projects in Hove. Over the next three years, Brighton and Hove Council will receive £1,340,630 as part of the Postive Activities for Young People, Youth Opportunity and Youth Capital Funds.

This new funding from the Government is a fantastic opportunity for our area. I want to help put together a bid for funding so that young people in Hove and Portslade have somewhere new and exciting they can go after school and at weekends.

The most important thing is that young people themselves help to decide what sort of facilities are provided.  I want to hear their views on what they want to see in our area and join local community and voluntary groups in putting together a bid for funding.

Applications for funding will open next month on the condition that local young people must be involved in the development, design and future running of the projects.
